Midway between Skjolden and Fortun in a valley surrounded by steep mountains lies Vassbakken – right on the Sognefjellsvegen national tourist route. To the north is Jotunheimen national park with the Hurrungane massif and Turtagrø, a popular area for climbing, skiing, summit trips and rambling. The village of Skjolden sits at the end of the Lustrafjord, a branch of the world’s longest fjord: the Sognefjord.
